The Internal Cost of ‘Free’ Pitches

A pitch may seem like a great opportunity to win business and showcase ideas, but it comes with significant hidden costs. These aren’t reflected in invoices, but rather in the resources that are quietly consumed. These costs primarily involve time, which is the most valuable currency in today’s creative economy.

Time is crucial for thoughtful consideration, allowing ideas to develop and improve. When teams engage in speculative work without compensation, they waste hours and divert resources from existing commitments and creative exploration. Unpaid time has its trade-offs. And that brings us to a simple but uncomfortable question: In a world where nothing is free, why are ideas expected to be?
