The Subject of Man

A boy from a small village in Trivandrum, Kerala was so fascinated by Disney’s animated series that he began his career as an animator at the tender age of 19. Meet Sumeesh Chempoor who then went on to study at the Trivandrum Fine Arts College, which altered his entire perspective to art, the social and political issues, and of course his way of living.

The melody of man.

New thoughts come into Sumeesh’s mind randomly. As most of his thoughts are related to real life incidents, he immediately writes or scribbles about the situation. At leisure, he explores the visual and depending on his current mood the composition flows. Execution quickly follows concept and the entire process of this art keeps him going. Medium is sometimes a limitation and at the same time a challenge. However, if the medium is limiting Sumeesh will change the medium.

Reverse Thoughts

Greatly inspired by nature, he feels it is not about symmetry or perfection. You can find the imperfection in the detail of a smooth flat surface. When he works, he forgets about the perfection in it and sometimes intentionally breaks the symmetry. He admits that a neat and clean canvas scares him and he will consciously change the smoothness of the line, to a rough one or change the texture of the colour, to get a more natural feel.
