KAAL: When Time Becomes Design

How First Base Design Agency shaped a bottle that honours the past, present, and future?

Creative Gaga, First Base

Time is one of those ideas we never quite stop thinking about - intangible, priceless, always moving. So when First Base Design Agency set out to create something inspired by time itself, the challenge wasn’t just visual. It needed symbolism, craft, and meaning layered with intention.

Where the Idea Begins

The team started with a simple, powerful truth:
Nothing we possess is more precious than time.

That insight led to the name Kaāl, taken from the Hindi word for time - rooted in culture, emotional in tone, and evocative enough to guide the entire design language.

Shaping Time into a Luxury Form

Kaal takes the silhouette of an hourglass, one of humanity’s oldest symbols of time passing. Crafted from diamond-cut crystal, the bottle catches and refracts light, creating a fluid visual effect even though the form is solid. It feels delicate, luxurious, and timeless all at once.

Surrounding the crystal are three metal pillars, crafted to represent the past, the present, and the future.

They frame the bottle, but they also frame the story: reminding us how all three phases of time coexist in everything we create and experience.

Material as Metaphor

Every material choice carries meaning:

  • Crystal → clarity, fragility, luxury

  • Metal → permanence and strength

  • Sundial → tradition, legacy, culture

A Crown Inspired by Indian Heritage

The bottle is topped with an ancient Indian sundial, a beautiful nod to the earliest ways of measuring time.

The sundial doesn’t just function as a cap — it lends the piece a sense of legacy and cultural depth.
