A Fine Dining Experience Inspired by a Legendary Musician

Tansen, the flagship Indian restaurant of the Ohri’s group, had to close its doors during the pandemic. However, its deep connection with the hearts of Hyderabadis sparked countless inquiries about its return. This inspired the Ohri’s group to relaunch Tansen with renewed vigour, aiming to recreate the glory of the Mughal court—a setting adorned with water bodies, music, poetry, and an unparalleled dining experience.

NH1 Design, Creative Gaga

Redesigned by NH1 Design, the revived Tansen highlights the artistry of master chefs, offering delicacies that ignite the senses and elevate the art of fine dining.

Tansen held a special place in the community for loyal patrons and the challenge was to create an extraordinary experience that appeals to new customers alike—eliciting the thought, “Is this how the royals felt?”

Tansen was envisioned as a gateway to the cultural richness of the Mughal era, reinterpreted in a contemporary setting. Urdu poetry graced the design, while the peaceful beauty of Mughal gardens served as the foundation for our research. From the moment of entry, with the sound of water flowing over a foundation on a water body, every possible touchpoint was carefully considered. Various design concepts were explored, all with the goal of leaving guests not only satisfied but enriched in multiple ways. Tansen invites you to experience the opulence of a bygone era, dining amidst regal decor and an immersive ambiance inspired by the splendour of the Mughal court. At its heart, Tansen’s music serves as the essence of the design, creating a truly unique experience.

The new identity

Inspired by timeless elegance, the new Tansen identity is crafted around bespoke Urdu calligraphy, weaving cultural storytelling into every touchpoint of the space. Each corner illuminates the beauty of heritage––from The Spectators, an interactive wall installation created with tablas, to a grand performance zone featuring abstract metal sculptures inspired by classical zoomorphic calligraphy.

The waiting area

The experience reimagines the royal era with meticulously designed carved metal napkin holders, a modern take on Mughal marble inlay, and intricate details brought to life with bold accents. Touches of gold inlay shimmer on the walls, while guests stroll across the Shaayari, or Urdu poetry. Altogether, it is truly a culinary journey back to a majestic era of elegance and magnificence.
