Transition Times

Lead UX Designer of Lollypop, Anandhi Hariharan, shares the ongoing transitions in the UX world, and the resulting changes in their applications that come alongside.

User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design, in India, is still in its nascent stage. However, 2016 was a year of change and saw increased awareness, adaptability and inquisitiveness in the market for digital design. Let’s understand some of them here:

2016 was the age of applications with websites taking a back seat. As we moved ahead we saw lot many clients demanding designs for both the platforms (Android and iOS) as compared to 2015 where the focus was only on Android. This is also an indicator of a shift in the buying patterns of the Indian consumers.

User-Centred Design (UCD)

Increased understanding of user behaviour made way for User Research in the second half of 2016. Clients were willing to set time and budget aside for better understanding and provide tailored solutions for the endusers. 2017 will see a high focus on building useful features on their apps that will ensure higher conversion and more engagement.

Simple & Intuitive Designs

Clients were aware of what they wanted and had greater clarity in the areas of simplicity and spontaneity. They wanted minimalistic designs and intelligent solutions that enabled usability and ease.

Personalisation

For increased conversion, a lot of study and analysis found its underway; mapping user behaviour and use of artificial intelligence for dispersing right information at right time was the most strategic shift of 2016.

Gamification

This feature helped in adding the fun element to user experience and facilitated client acquisition. 2016 introduced the thought and we expect 2017 to have higher demand of this functionality.

Conversational UX

Chat bots have made its way slowly with Siri and Google Assistant in 2016. We expect them to become the new way of interaction and many new clients experimenting with it in 2017.

IoT

Internet of Things is already huge as device connectivity is becoming important day by day. And, it is going to get bigger and better in times to come.
