Design Awards - Taiwan

The Golden Design Pin Awards 2017 is a year-by-year celebration of consistently innovative products and evolving projects specifically created for the Chinese-speaking market. Participating individuals and companies are judged on their ability to innovate in this exclusive dynamic economy of the world.

The Golden Pin Design Award (GDPA) is an international event, held annually by the Taiwan Design Center in Taipei. It is the longest-running and only international design award aimed at raising global awareness, and celebrating, design created for and within huaren (Chinese-speaking) communities. The Golden Pin Design Award 2017 Grand Ceremony is schedule to be held on the evening of the 7th of December, 2017, announcing this year’s Best Design winners.

The award is free to enter, and entered products and projects are assessed in three stages by an expert panel of international judges. Following the Secondary Selection rounds held in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Taipei, a total of 410 entries from 9 countries — China, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and USA — have been selected to receive a coveted Design Mark.

The competition, mainly, has 4 award categories. The following 6 recipients have been featured under the respective categories:

Spatial Design

1. IMO Architecture & Design (Taiwan) Xiafu Activity Center:

Adjacent to Hongfu Gong temple in Xiafu, the cultural activity center re-imagines the bright colours of the ornate temple roof as striking verticals. It is able to create and bring about a sense of new vigour and sensibility in the viewer, through not only its vibrant tones but also its intriguingly disruptive structure. Surely something the eye cannot miss.

Sha Yao set out to resolve her grandmother’s eating difficulties due to dementia, she developed assistive tableware designed to benefit those with cognitive difficulties such as Dementia or Alzheimer’s; motor problems like Parkinson’s, and other such disabilities or illnesses. 2. UID Create (Taiwan) 2017 Universiade Torch:

Rather evidently based on the traditional Olympic torch, this minimalistic concept torch designed for the opening ceremony, was executed using traditional hexagonal bamboo weaving craft. It is sculpted using a modern 5-axis laser, 'upholding tradition' while 'boldly innovating', and so is definitely something for lovers of new-age design to keep out an eye for.

Wwave Design (Macau) Uini Soap Branding:

Adding life, excitement and exuberance to an everyday item like a soap, this keenly thought-out and conceptualized effort provides a rather zestful attribute or quality to the sanitary cosmetic product from Macau. Exhibiting an original triangular design through cool colour tones of white and blue, the simplistic look and minimalistic approach very well work their trick on the viewer.
