Mimicking Magical Forests

Self-taught animator, director and watercolour artist, Surajit Majhi, generously runs us through the process he and his team used at Graphix Story to create a moving visual representation of the forest’s magic.

Being natural is the best way to be.

To kickstart the journey of Graphixstory 2.0 after it’s incorporation in November 2016, we were in need of a short yet effective video representing the values of our creative studio. When designing for your own enterprise, there is no one to stop you from stretching your creative wings. Recognising that, we had all the freedom in the world to shape things the way we liked. Thereby, everything became very natural, and so also efficient.

There is no inspiration like nature. Nature is the biggest source of our creative inspirations. So we attempted to impersonate the magic of forests primarily through the simulation of its two main visual elements of expression, colour and motion, finally working on sound. Vibrant colours were thus applied through deep, effervescent tones. Importantly, subtle and sensitive motions of every element were further manifested to the on-screen effect. Moving to the sounds at the last step, a jungle theme involving the whispers and calls of the jungle was added to supplement the overall effect.

Execute the theme, totally. From writing the script to illustration, and even animation, it was all done and dusted within just 4 days. We played with colours, and this was pure experiment. The delicate motions were rather delicate to watch – for example, the butterflies flying around. To finally create what we desired and envisioned was a satisfaction like none other, especially when it comes to mimicking the magic of nature, which is never an easy task, whatsoever
