Indian Mythology Modernised

In an attempt to continue the unspoken tradition of the Indian Mythological tales being narrated to kids by parents and grandparents for times to come, Priyanka Sachdev illustrates these stories to be in-sync with the style of today’s generation.

Having grown up watching Disney movies, fascinated by visuals and listening to Indian Mythological tales, Priyanka even during her textile design major would turn to print design and create patterns by illustrating stories on fabric. Working at QuirkBox, she got the chance to design, create and execute in-house prints for fabrics, thus combining her love for fabric and illustration.

Being a 'Bharatanatyam' dancer for over 20 years, stories from Indian Mythology have had a continuous impact on her life. Portraying these characters through dance since her childhood got her to know their moods, nuances and their life-stories. Listening to stories from the Ramayan and Mahabharat transported her to a magical land!

Unfortunately, these stories today are getting lost through the generations. In an attempt to preserve these stories and create an interest in the new generation of parents and kids alike, Priyanka is using her treasure-box of knowledge on Indian Mythology and trying to re-create the extensive plot lines and fascinating characters in an illustration style that is relatable to today.

Indian Mythology being vast and limitless, the inspiration to be drawn from it, is endless. Excited to illustrate these stories, she keeps the target audience in mind and relevance of the subject to be worked on before hand-picking the scenes to be re-created in an enthralling manner.
