The Brief

The basic inspiration for this project stems from the texture, symbolism, and the traditionally essential structure and patterns that are visible across the designs of Indian currency, script and symbols— all of which ultimately act as a true representation of Indian culture and form. The idea was thus to explore these traditional aspects and improvise upon them through illustration.

The Concept

Representations such as the numerical denominations at the center of the Indian note; the wheat crop being a symbol of agriculture, the backbone of the Indian Economic growth, and a thumb impression representing the farmers’ toil, were taken into consideration as the guiding light. Anatomy and structural formation were particularly kept in mind, the base font used throughout the project being “Ek Mukta”.

The Outcome

This conscious effort to include traditionally ‘Indian’ elements that are visible in various forms resulted in a holistic representation of Indian culture, as they transitioned into and took effect in aspects such as the texture and form of the freshly created typeface.
