At PulakB Design, the term 'collaboration' takes on a unique meaning. While they embrace open-minded partnerships with clients, they avoid the word when working with design partners, opting instead for terms like 'contributors' and 'partners.' This approach reflects their commitment to fair and respectful work relationships. In this interview, we explore how PulakB Design values individual contributions, manages creative differences, and ensures that respect and communication are at the heart of every project.
Can you explain why the word 'collaboration' is not used in your studio vocabulary and how this philosophy shapes your work culture?
We do use the word collaboration, but only in the context of working with our clients, as it describes our open minded approach to the design challenge at hand. We, however, avoid using the word when working with various design partners, as ‘collaboration’ has become synonymous with ‘working for free’ in the influencer led marketing space. We prefer using terms like partners and contributors when working with various design talents.
How does your studio ensure that individual contributions are valued while maintaining a collective identity?
The individual needs to feel valued, heard, and treated with respect and dignity throughout the design exercise. As long as we’re able to live up to those markers, the team output is a success.
