ARTISTIC ABODE

ARTISTIC ABODE

This abode is home to a family of four, actor Irfaan Khan, wife Sutapa and their two sons Babil & Ayaan. The house aimed to be a space that brings people in and keeps out the hustle and bustle of the world outside. Learn from the designer Shabnam Gupta as she explains the brief and challenges behind this fabulous outcome.

The clients are very artistically inclined and ingenious in their perspective of the world they live in. That allowed Shabnam Gupta and her team to go touch up on their creative style and incorporate the elements that connect them to their roots. Experimentation becomes key to space.

The aim was to design each space as a representation of its inhabitant's distinct personality. They also wanted to bring in a seamless connection with the public space. In the initial brief Irrfan Khan stressed to have a water body. He further added that when he ideates, he enjoys the sound of water, but this has to be an exceptionally controlled amount of sound, else it would get on his nerves. Also, he wanted shes, lotuses and reeds in the pond which posed a unique challenge. Shabnam gave the pond, relocated from a corner to the middle of the living room.

Irrfan Khan residence was one that was most artistically adroit and a challenging project, with a gratifying and unique end product. She is proud of how space is an example of an artistic home amid a busy life, the space with distinct features and corners while the overall feel emulates that of a cosy home.

"I told Shabnam, I wanted a house wherein when you enter the house from the noise outside, I want that it changes your mindset. It brings you in; also, a water body was a must for me! The outcome was exactly as I wanted!"
