The biggest hurdle? Making Trivago more than just a price tag. Operating within a competitive industry despite strong brand awareness, trivago's challenge was to solidify its brand presence, enhancing its distinctiveness and market adoption. The objective was to refresh the brand identity, ensuring it resonated more distinctly with users.
To breathe life into this promise, DesignStudio crafted a clear brand strategy. At its core lies the single-minded proposition: Trivago is your shortcut to a great hotel deal. To guide this transformation, three key experience principles were defined:
• Assured and Upbeat,
• Unfussy and Uncomplicated
• And Witty and Relatable
These principles ensure Trivago always shows up in the world as a confident, friendly companion on your travel journey.
The visual identity brings the brand promise to life.
• A bold logo, incorporating the 't' shorthand with a checkmark and smile, signifies 'Search savvy' and 'Feel super'.
• Meet Hank, your door-hanger hero: This charming little dude adds personality and fun, guiding you through deals with a smile.
• The custom font, Savvy Grotesk, designed in collaboration with Studio Feixen, adds contemporary character and multilingual versatility, facilitating global communication.
Trivago's new voice is sunny and inviting. Think friendly advice from a travel-obsessed bestie, not a robot drone spitting out prices. And yes, there's still room for wit! This tone shines through in their playful hand-drawn illustrations, inspired by Hank, and stunning photos showcasing the joy of finding the perfect vacation spot.
