Not everything begins with a plan. For Sujith Kudla, it often begins with a question that explores collective memory and the subtle shifts in our relationship with nature and technology.
The first time you look at Sujith Kudla’s work, it feels structured - almost scientific. The compositions are precise, the details carefully observed. But spend more time with it, and something shifts. The work begins to feel intuitive, as if it’s evolving while being made.
This way of working goes back to his childhood. Growing up in a culturally rich environment, surrounded by artists and performers, he was constantly observing - sometimes questioning, and mostly just noticing.
Instead of turning those observations into answers, he began exploring them visually. Over time, as his skills developed, these thoughts naturally shaped his work. But he never consciously tried to build a style.
It simply evolved. Even now, he doesn’t see it as fixed. If anything, he’s open to it changing completely.
Sujith initially saw defining art by skill or beauty as limiting. However, his experience at CAVA shifted his perspective, leading him to view art as experience and expression. This change broadened his influences to include culture, science, and daily life, prioritising curiosity over perfection.
