In a world racing toward modernity, some voices are fading into silence—among them, the quiet lament of wool. Desi Oon, a heartfelt six-minute stop-motion film by Studio Eeksaurus, brings wool to life as the storyteller, narrating its journey from a once-sacred bond between humans, animals, and nature to its present-day neglect.
The film is more than just animation; it’s a tribute to the rich pastoral heritage of India, particularly the Deccani sheep, nurtured and protected for generations by revered shepherd Balumama. Through stunning craftsmanship, real Deccani wool has been intricately woven into the animation, making the medium as powerful as the message.
A year in the making, Desi Oon is a labour of love, blending art, music, and storytelling. With evocative narration by Swanand Kirkire, a soul-stirring score by Rajat Dholakia, and immersive sound design by Resul Pookutty, the film breathes life into a vanishing way of life.
Created in collaboration with Living Lightly, The Centre for Pastoralism, and the Samagata Foundation, the film urges us to remember, respect, and revive our connection with traditional pastoral communities. It’s not just a film—it’s a call to action.
Let’s listen. Let’s remember. Let’s act. Watch, share, and spread the word.
